Tubal Reversal

There may be a variety of factors that cause women to experience a change of heart after having a tubal ligation. Tubal reversal is an out-patient surgical procedure that offers women the option of restoring their fertility without taking medications and undergoing In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

A tubal reversal involves the removal of the scar tissue created by the previous ligation procedure and the reconstruction of the tubes in several layers using a microscope or magnifying eye glasses. The surgery is performed through a 3-4 inch incision at the bikini line.

During the first part of the procedure, a laparoscopy is performed which requires inserting a small camera just below the navel. This allows the physician to check the condition of the tubes and make sure the reversal has a high likelihood of success. It also avoids the possibility of creating a larger incision only to find that the reversal is not able to be performed. By doing so, if the reversal cannot be performed, patients may keep a significant portion of their fee or apply that money toward an IVF cycle.

Tubal reversals are performed under general anesthesia and last about 1.5 to 2 hours. We perform the procedures in our own private surgical center, Washington Reproductive Surgical Center, in Annandale, Virginia. It is a state of the art, fully accredited (by the American Association for Ambulatory Health Care) center. All of our Anesthesiologist are board certified MD’s.

Our reproductive surgeons are board certified/eligible by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or the Board of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. They are all members of the Society of Reproductive Surgeons and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

Following the procedure, patients will be in recovery for 1-2 hours before returning home. Most of our patients are able to return to work the next week and may begin attempting pregnancy as early as six weeks after the procedure. Success rates depend on several key factors; age of the woman, type of previous tubal ligation, and the condition and length of the remaining portion of the tubes. Together, our team of doctors has over 35 years of experience and a success rate of over 90%.

Our Reproductive surgeons and staff are committed to the highest personal standards and individualized care. Our all inclusive fee is only $6900 and financing is available.
