Why Gestational Surrogacy?
There are generally two types of surrogacy, gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy. During traditional surrogacy, the surrogate mother achieves pregnancy through artificial insemination using her own egg and another man's sperm. During gestational surrogacy, the surrogate mother undergoes IVF treatment using an embryo created from the egg and sperm of the prospective parents (or a third-party donor). At Washington Fertility Center we offer gestational surrogacy, as it offers parents the chance to have children sharing their DNA and can lead to fewer legal and ethical complications.
When is Surrogacy the Answer?
Gestational surrogacy is a treatment option used for women unable to carry a child. This can occur due to an unhealthy or removed uterus, or in cases of high-risk pregnancies.
